J. Lauritzen in brief

J. Lauritzen A/S (JL) was founded in 1884 and is one of the oldest Danish shipping companies. Domiciled in Copenhagen, Denmark, JL has overseas offices in Stamford (USA), Tokyo (Japan), Bilbao (Spain), and Singapore and is represented in 14 countries via associated companies.

JL is focused on continuous development of its various business activities world-wide with unfailing emphasis on customer service, safety at sea, and environmental protection.

In 2005, JL reported revenues of USD 591.7m, a result of USD 210.4m, and generated a 60.5% return on invested capital. At year-end 2005, JL had a total number of employees of 907.

JL owns and operates bulk carriers, gas carriers, reefer vessels and product tankers. At the end of 2005, JL alone and together with associates controlled a combined fleet of about 190 vessels.

Lauritzen Bulkers

Lauritzen Bulkers is a major operator of bulk carriers engaged in ocean transportation of dry bulk cargoes world-wide.

In partnership with Island View Shipping, Lauritzen Bulkers controls about 50 Handysize bulk carriers and is thus a leading player in this segment. Lauritzen Bulkers is also engaged in the Handymax, Panamax and Cape Size bulk carrier segments, and operates a combined fleet of about 65 vessels.

Lauritzen Kosan

Lauritzen Kosan has a leading position in transportation of petrochemical and liquefied petroleum gasses (LPG) with semi-refrigerated and pressurised gas carriers in sizes up to 8,000 m3carrying capacity. Lauritzen Kosan recently entered the fast growing ethylene gas carrier segment through an extensive newbuilding program.

Together with its partners in Sigas Kosan (gas carriers below 3,000 m3capacity) and Unigas Kosan (pressurised gas carriers in the Far East), Lauritzen Kosan operates a combined fleet of about 50 vessels.

Lauritzen Reefers

Lauritzen Reefers controls a fleet of about 20 owned and chartered reefer vessels. All vessels are commercially operated by NYKLauritzenCool AB, jointly owned by JL and NYK Reefers Ltd. NYKLauritzenCool is a leading reefer operator employing a combined fleet of about 70 specialised reefer vessels world-wide.

LauritzenCool Logistics, a subsidiary of NYKLauritzenCool, offers single entry, one-stop-shop logistics services for shippers of fruit and other perishable goods.

Lauritzen Tankers

Established in early 2004, Lauritzen Tankers is engaged in ocean transportation of refined oil products with medium range product tankers. The fleet build-up continued during 2005 to a total of six vessels supported by leading cargo interests and important tonnage suppliers. Lauritzen Tankers recently entered into a partnership with Unicorn Shipping (International) Limited.
