Attracting talented students in Singapore

With Singapore being the largest of our overseas offices, we strive to create awareness of the company and our activities by meeting students on their home turf. Late January, J. Lauritzen Singapore attended the 2015 career fair at Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Singapore holds a great pool of talent
Four Lauritzen representatives were present and met with many of the several thousand students, who showed up at the fair. Among the Lauritzen representatives were former NTU students, who provided current NTU students with an opportunity to talk to ‘one of their own’ and hear their story and experience of working for a Danish shipping company.

"There is no doubt that the students see the career fair as an opportunity to meet and greet potential employers face-to-face, while we consider it a great opportunity to advertise our trainee programme”, says Martin Sato, Managing Director of J. Lauritzen Singapore, who attended the fair for the second consecutive year.

Being present at these fairs also provides an opportunity to answer questions students may have regarding the company and possible career opportunities.

Generally, there is a very big and keen interest from students to hear more about J. Lauritzen and our trainee programme at these fairs. Not only from students from the maritime batch, but also from students within business and engineering”, says Mr. Sato noting that the Lauritzen delegation received positive feedback from the students.

J. Lauritzen’s Singapore office currently employs six NTU graduates. In addition, two NTU graduates are stationed at the Stamford and Copenhagen offices, respectively.
