J. Lauritzen hosts EU discussion
On Wednesday 21 June, J. Lauritzen hosted a well-attended EU discussion on behalf of the Danish Propellers’ Club.
Jens Ditlev Lauritzen, Chairman of the Propellers’ Club and Chairman of Lauritzen Fonden opened the meeting by referring to the new Danish foreign and security policy strategy stating that Denmark will work for a strong EU.
Key note speaker, Lykke Friis, Prorector at the University of Copenhagen, EU expert and former Minister of Climate and Environment, addressed the audience on current EU topics in view of Brexit, the recent elections in the Netherlands and France and the upcoming election in Germany. Lykke Friis also reflected on the relations between EU, Russia and the US.
Lykke Friis did not find the overall question of “more or less” EU particularly interesting, but stressed that there is no doubt that we need more EU when it comes to the major internal and external threats such as security, migration and protectionism and less EU in terms of detailed regulation of matters that the individual member states are better suited to handle themselves.
